There is a hope

PebbleToday Jonah’s body was cremated. We thought we weren’t going to attend, as we’ll be having a proper thanksgiving service in the coming weeks, however in the end we couldn’t stay away.

We cried. We laughed (who makes a typo on a coffin?!). We cried some more. We have tried not to get sentimental about his body, knowing that he is safe with our Lord, but we are glad we went.

They asked for a song to play, and this is the one we chose:

There is a hope that burns within my heart,
That gives me strength for every passing day;
A glimpse of glory now revealed in meagre part,
Yet drives all doubt away:
I stand in Christ, with sins forgiven;
And Christ in me, the hope of heaven!
My highest calling and my deepest joy,
To make His will my home.

There is a hope that lifts my weary head,
A consolation strong against despair,
That when the world has plunged me in its deepest pit,
I find the Saviour there!
Through present sufferings, future’s fear,
He whispers ‘courage’ in my ear.
For I am safe in everlasting arms,
And they will lead me home.

There is a hope that stands the test of time,
That lifts my eyes beyond the beckoning grave,
To see the matchless beauty of a day divine
When I behold His face!
When sufferings cease and sorrows die,
And every longing satisfied.
Then joy unspeakable will flood my soul,
For I am truly home

Thank you for everyone’s messages and prayers. We are truly grateful.

  1. Dear Jess, I have followed your blog since your Mum put the link on the Clergy Wives’ FB page and I have wept and smiled along the way. We will probably never meet but I would love to give you a hug right now. You are amazing and Jonah was very fortunate to have you for his Mum. I will keep you and Adam (and your extended families) in my prayers for a while longer. May many blessings come your way, Janet Date: Mon, 11 Apr 2016 15:47:14 +0000 To: janethider@hotmail.com

  2. You chose the BEST hymn – with the truest words. I won’t be able to sing it again without thinking of Jonah – mourning our loss but also thanking the Lord because we know he is safe and his departure makes us long for Heaven a little more. We were praying (and crying!) at the airport and I know others were praying for you too. Lots and lots of love xxx
